Anxiety

Nightmare Rollercoaster

You’re locked in – your shoulders pinned to the seat so tightly you can hardly breathe. And the rickety gears are moving. You can’t get off – no matter how much you might want to.

Excruciating dread overcomes you as you make that climb – your thoughts piling one on top of the other – over and over and over. You can feel your heart racing and your stomach rising into your throat as you reach the summit and –

The plummet begins. It’s lightning fast and twisted – every curve knocking your brain against your skull and straining your spine as you scratch and scrape just to hang on. You close your eyes, but the images streaking across your closed eyelids are more terrifying than the view.

And it’s never… going… to stop.

Barely holding on…

You’re exhausted, body and soul. Beyond frustrated and careening out of control, you can’t relax. You need respite.

You’ve tried everything – meditation, your favorite hobbies (well, at least they used to be), talking with friends and family, hibernation. Nothing works. You’re out of options.

You don’t want to believe it, but you worry you’re going crazy. You’re starting to think something’s wrong with you and nobody will ever understand because you can’t even explain what’s happening.

Instead of clarity, each day brings only more questions, fears, and obsessive thoughts. So overwhelming they leave you gasping for air – groping, grasping, struggling. For something to hold onto.

Yet the moment the car swings even close, the relentless track jolts you back around to tunnels of inadequacy, shame, guilt, worry, and fear.

Somehow, you have to make it STOP! You’ve got to breathe.

Escaping the Nightmare –

Everyone needs a moment – a few moments – to stop. To relax. To simply breathe.

We all experience anxiety on some level – it’s normal. It’s part of who we are, and in small doses, it serves a purpose and can actually feel… good. It may even be that when you stepped on that ride, everything was fine – it even looked fun.

But often, suddenly, it can get the best of you.

The good news is that you don’t have to suffer alone.

There is help.
